Design doesn’t exist in a vacuum.

Neither do I.

I wouldn’t be a designer if it weren’t for also spending years doing other things. I’m driven by simplicity, joy, balance, and the dialectic between timelessness and progression. These qualities transcend disciplinary boundaries. They compel. They inspire. And perhaps most importantly, they bring joy. Good design makes me happy the same way that music makes me dance. It’s this nexus of qualities that makes good design tick, too.

Here are some things that make me who I am – as a designer and otherwise.

I’ve lived in the US, Spain, Italy, and the UK.

The phrase "designers are inherently students of the world" captures it all. My international path has inspired me in countless ways and has made me both observant and empathetic in a manner otherwise difficult to get.

I’m also a pianist & TV/film composer.

Design is, in many ways, music manifest visually.

Balance, harmony, texture, line, melody, foreground, background, tempo, progression – it's all there. My nuanced sense of balance and cohesion that I developed through years in the music industry informs my visual design at a very deep, visceral level. View my musical work here

I’m informed by theory and shaped by research.

Understanding how we create and share meaning is at the core of design + design thinking.

Design is meant for people, and that means understanding people and what makes us do the things we do. Thanks to a Master's at King's College London and years as a qualitative research consultant, my academic and theoretical acumen provide a robust framework for unpacking the questions that have to be asked before informed design can happen.

I believe simplicity matters (and that it isn’t easy).

We live in a cluttered world.

The perception of simplicity betrays the deep sophistication that births it. If you can make it look effortless, odds are you know what you're doing. It's my philosophy on just about everything. Why make it more complicated than it needs to be? I’ll always push here.

I’m an avid off-road cyclist.

Getting on a bike is a therapy like no other. I enjoy cycling most when it comes with a generous helping of dirt, so mostly mountain and gravel cycling. I’ve also have been known to throw a number on and race on occasion, but it’s always about having fun and pushing myself more than anything else.
